When was the last time you listened to yourself?
Talk about your topic and see where it takes you.

This saying has been hanging in my office on a huge canvas for about 10 years now. To be honest, I’m a little tired of it. Still, it remains there because it serves you and me so well with its message: It feels good to express what’s inside. Simply listening with appreciation can already bring great relief.
We develop from childhood onward: first the “WE,” then the “I,” and finally the “ME.” As human beings, we essentially “function” only in relation to others, since it is only through interaction with others that we truly experience ourselves, only through conversation with others that we truly come to understand ourselves, and often only through the reactions of others that we can truly grasp and feel the weight of certain personal experiences.
For many people, there is no one like that in their lives: someone who truly (just!) listens, is appreciative, nonjudgmental, and genuine.
A very special form of counseling in which this quality of listening is systematized is client-centered counseling according to Carl Rogers, also known as client-centered psychotherapy. “Non-directive” and “client-centered” are the two key terms: These conversations
are not about fixed goals, predetermined solutions, or advice imposed from the outside.
We already have far too much of all that in today’s world. Instead, the goal is for you to engage in a very valuable process of self-exploration through this type of conversation, so that you can then find healing solutions to your personal issues on your own. I closely follow what you express
and reflect back what I understand, perceive, and sense from you. In this way, I serve as a sounding board and mirror for you, helping you to better hear, see, and feel yourself. At the same time, I am your reliable companion, designing a positive and effective therapeutic process for you.
This highly respectful and non-judgmental approach to conversation guides you step by step toward deep inner insights. It helps you make unconscious connections tangible and allows emotions to flow in a way that brings relief.
